Vic Falls: Zambia vs Zimbabwe

The Zambezi River makes a natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and both countries share their slice of Victoria Falls - one of the largest waterfalls in the world and a natural wonder.

The question of which side is better has a simple solution but no clear winner.

From the Zambian side you can descend to ground zero with towering cliffs and cascading waters dwarfing your existence. The Zambian side also has a narrow footbridge spanning the abyss and a walk along a knife-edge precipice opposite the falls. The Zimbabwean side features more of the postcard pictures we all know and love. The water flow is more concentrated here creating billowing plumes of rainbow-filled mist clouds and you get to see the water falling in its vertigo-inducing entirety.

But from the air (oh yes, the Flight of Angels is probably the most recommended of all Victoria Falls activities, pricey and short though it is) you get to see the falls from all angles with IMAX detail.

Solution: see the falls from both sides if you've got the time; see the falls from the air if it's the last thing you do.
